Lexus is the easiest luxury car I buy. The reliability keeps the value up, buyers trust the brand, and the auction demand is always strong. If you have an RX or NX, you are sitting on more value than you think.

What I See When I Buy a Lexus

Lexus is the brand where sellers consistently underestimate their car's value. The reliability reputation keeps auction demand high, and buyers pay a premium because they know maintenance costs are low. I buy Lexus vehicles every week, and the RX and NX are two of the easiest cars I sell at auction.

The mistake I see most often: Lexus owners compare their car to the Toyota equivalent and assume the prices are similar. They are not. A Lexus RX 350 consistently brings $4,000 to $8,000 more than a comparable Toyota Highlander at auction. The brand premium is real on the used market.

Model breakdown

Selling a Specific Lexus Model?

Lexus RX

2019 - 2026 · $32,000 - $57,000

Best retention in the Lexus lineup. 28% depreciation over 5 years. The RX 350h hybrid holds even better due to fuel economy demand.

Common issues I see

  • Infotainment learning curve on newer touchscreen models
  • Wind noise complaints on some 2023+ units
  • Brake actuator noise on hybrid models (not a safety issue)

Lexus NX

2022 - 2026 · $30,000 - $48,000

Strong demand in the compact luxury SUV segment. The NX 350h is the volume seller. Redesigned in 2022 with much better interior tech.

Common issues I see

  • Touchscreen responsiveness complaints on early 2022 models
  • Rear cargo area smaller than competitors
  • Some early production paint quality concerns

Lexus ES

2019 - 2026 · $26,000 - $42,000

Solid sedan with loyal buyers. Depreciation is moderate. The ES 300h hybrid is popular with commuters.

Common issues I see

  • Road noise on models without the optional sound insulation package
  • Mark Levinson audio system repairs can be expensive
  • Older models (pre-2019) show their age in infotainment

Lexus IS

2019 - 2026 · $24,000 - $40,000

Depreciates faster than other Lexus models: 52% over 5 years. The IS 500 V8 is the exception, holding value well due to enthusiast demand.

Common issues I see

  • Tight back seat limits family appeal and resale pool
  • IS 300 AWD has less power than competitors expect
  • Infotainment on pre-2021 models feels dated
What affects your offer

Does Anything on My Lexus Lower the Offer?

RZ EV Depreciation

Impact: The RZ drops 55% in value, far worse than any other Lexus model.

The RZ is the one Lexus I have to price carefully. EV luxury SUV demand is soft, and the range does not compete well. If you have an RZ, sell sooner rather than later. Every other Lexus model holds up well.

Older LS Transmission Issues

Impact: Some owners report non-linear throttle response and delayed shifts on the 10-speed automatic.

This mostly affects the 2018-2020 LS 500. I check the transmission behavior during every test drive. A car with documented dealer service for the TSB is worth more than one without.

Age-Mileage Mismatch

Impact: Low-use Lexus vehicles (5,000 miles per year or less) can have rubber, seal, and battery issues from sitting.

I see this a lot with retired owners. A 2019 RX with 20,000 miles sounds great, but I check for dry-rotted tires, worn belts, and a weak 12V battery. Low miles are good, but sitting is not the same as driving.

Simple process

Here is how it works.

1

Call Joe.

Tell me about your Lexus. I'll let you know where the offer should land, and we'll set up a time.

2

I come to your house.

I pull into your driveway, scan the VIN on your Lexus, run it through a professional valuation tool right there, and show you a firm, guaranteed offer on the screen. No meetup spots, no dealership visit.

3

Accept the offer, get a check.

If the number works, I write you a check before I leave. I handle all the paperwork. If it doesn't work, no pressure.

The real tradeoff

Why Sell Your Lexus to a Dealer Instead of Privately?

Lexus is the one luxury brand where you are probably sitting on more value than you realize. The reliability reputation creates strong auction demand, and buyers pay a premium they would not pay for a German equivalent with the same mileage. An RX or NX with 50,000 miles is still a highly desirable car.

If you have been thinking about selling, Lexus values are stable enough that you are not losing money by the week like you would with a BMW or Tesla. But you are also not gaining anything by waiting. Call me, I will come to your door, and you will know exactly what your Lexus is worth in 20 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Your Lexus

Is a Lexus worth more than the Toyota equivalent?+
Yes, consistently. A Lexus RX 350 brings $4,000 to $8,000 more than a comparable Toyota Highlander at auction. The brand premium is real on the used market, and I price it into your offer.
Do you buy Lexus hybrids?+
Yes. The RX 350h and NX 350h are strong sellers. Hybrid Lexus models hold value well because of fuel economy demand. The battery systems are reliable and do not scare off used buyers.
Which Lexus models hold value best?+
The RX is the best overall, with only 28% depreciation over 5 years. The NX is close behind. The IS and LS depreciate faster. The RZ EV is the worst at 55% loss.
How does Lexus depreciation compare to BMW?+
Lexus retains 71% of value at 3 years. BMW retains about 50%. That gap means your Lexus is likely worth more than you think if you have been comparing it to German luxury brands.
What if my Lexus has high mileage but low wear?+
High-mileage Lexus vehicles are some of the easiest cars I buy. The reliability means 100K or 150K miles is not a problem. I check the actual condition, not just the odometer. A well-maintained Lexus at 120K miles is still a strong car.
